T112DVD The Rhaetische Bahn Vol 2 (1989) DVD
T112DVD
The second and concluding volume on the Rhaetischebahn focuses on the three remaining and equally impressive RhB arteries. Through the rocky gateway of the Klus, the Davos line enters the pastoral meadows of the Praettigau valley at the foot of the furrowed Silvretta mountains. After reaching charming Klosters the track climbs by way of a steep spiral tunnel to the valley of Davos, the world famous winter sports resort, then descends through the wild gorge of the Landwasser where it crosses the gigantic Wiesener viaduct prior to joining the Albula line at Filisur. We then move south to the spellbounding Engadine, 'The Rooftop of Europe', with its majestic mountains and dark green slopes. Leaving Sankt Moritz and its plush hotels and casinos, we follow the young river Inn and quaint villages dotting sunny terraces finally to reach the high resort terminus at Scuol-Tarasp. Vintage electric and steam machines hilight this segment as we focus on the spectacular 100th RhB anniversary jubilee celebrations in the sunny Engadines. Also from Sankt Moritz, we begin a vertiginous climb on the old Berninabahn across forbidding Alpine peaks, taking us to a height of 7400 feet over the lake-studded Bernina Pass, only to descend a phenomenal 6000 feet in only 24 miles to the Italian frontier at Tirano. The winter here is 8 months long, but even at such heights fields glow with the splendor of wild mountain flora. A cab ride aboard a classic ABe4/4 electric railcar across the sky-piercing Bernina range, hilights this segment of the program, as the cameras follow every twist and turn of this fascinating route from all available angles. English, 115 MN full color. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
