(HO scale) Multi-current electric locomotive type 1602 of the Belgian State railways SNCB in current yellow livery and large blue stripes. During the 1960s, in consideration of fast international rail connections as well as the prestigious TEE service, the Belgian National railways SNCB required new cross-border locomotives for quick through traffic in order to minimize running times. In collaboration with ACEC of Charlenot and Brugeoise&Nivilles of Bruges, the SNCB Traction Project Office designed and developed the innovative quadri-current “Series 160” locomotive, later re-classified as “Type 16”. This event marked the birth of the first electric locomotive of true excellence! The eight units of the Type 16 manufactured since 1966 have achieved great success, with number 1601 and 1602 reaching unequalled exploits in 1974. After 40 years of international operation on European rails with service from Paris to Dormunt, Cologne to Osterund, Paris to Brussels and Liege, and Paris to Spietz, the last 5 units of this dependable locomotive class are still employed in domestic Belgian service. Epoch V, Digital ready with NEM652 interface, triple white/red bi-directional headlights, operating pantographs, five pole motor with flywheels, metal chassis, NEM coupler sockets, length: 220mm.
