braw45750.jpg BRAWA 45750 DB 2nd class coach Bid21 in green
(HO scale) Second class coach type Bid21 of the German Deutsche Bundesbahn DB in green livery. There was a large shortage of carriages after the First World War. Although the Deutsche Reichsbahn only wanted to buy steel construction type carriages, this plan had to be abandoned in order to swiftly rectify the carriage shortage. The first DRG passenger cars were therefore produced in the tried-and-tested wood construction form with strut bracing for undercarriage reinforcement. Between 1921 and 1923, 2236 carriages of the Di 21 construction type were produced together with a further 397 carriages of the Di 21a construction type with a slightly different internal arrangement. The carriages provided 66 seats in the fourth class. With a length over buffers of 13,920 mm, they had a wheelbase of 8,500 mm, providing a smooth carriage ride. After the abolition of the fourth class in 1928, the carriages were renamed Cid 21. Over time, the carriages were converted to meet the new requirements, hence the original gas lighting was replaced with electric light. Other changes affected the internal arrangement. A large number of these carriages came to the DB after the war; the last one remained in active service with the DB up to 1964. Epoch III, full interiors, NEM couplers, length: 160mm. delivery 11/2006
