T038DVD SBB Summer evening in Wassen (REOS production)
T038DVD
In 1882, the Gotthard tunnel was opened and has proved to be one of the most important transit routes from North to South Europe. Wassen is situated on the north ramp leading up towards the tunnel. The north ramp is relatively short in length, but requires an ingenious track layout to gain the necessary height required. A variety of bridges, three spiral tunnels and a grade of 2,6%, make the Gotthard route a railway engineering masterpiece. Wassen's location is at the centre of this spectacular route with the famous church being visible from the three different levels of the railway. The filming took place on six consecutive evenings in August 2001, from different locations. The railway provides a tremendous variety of passenger and freight trains shot from varied camera positions. You can expect a rail crane shunting and preparing for track maintenance in the night, a thunder- storm hanging over Andermatt, a surprising look at Wassen from the Gurtnellen direction, BLS locos and a postal train overtaking a freight train in the dark. The film has been digitally recorded and mastered. We only use original sound recordings, without any additional music or commentary. Maps have been added to pin point the camera location. Running time approximately: 53 minutes. REOS production. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
