braw0624.jpg BRAWA 0624 DRG BR53 tender 0-6-0 steam locomotive in black
(HO scale) Tender 0-6-0 steam locomotive class BR53 of the German Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft DRG in black and red livery. The steam locomotive DR 53 863 moved a train weighing 1000 t on flat stretches at a speed of 54 km/h. This was the top speed allowed for freight trains at the time. On hills of 10%, it moved 379 t at 25 km/h. The geographical features in Württemberg made powerful locomotives a necessity very early on. Powerful locomotives needed to be able to master the steep climbs in the Alb mountains. As early as 1849, the three-coupler of the "Alb class" was produced at the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen. Thanks to continuous further development, the first of the high-performance Fc class was produced in 1890. By 1909, K.W.St.E. had purchased 125 units of the Fc. This formed the most important stronghold of the freight service in Württemberg. The Deutsche Reichsbahn took on 65 locomotives and listed them as 53 801 to 53 865 in their stocks. The small machines were taken out of service in 1931. Epoch II, bi-directional lights, Digital ready with NEM652 interface, die cast metal frame and body, sprung buffers, flywheel powered, length: 162mm.
