(HO scale) Tender 0-6-0 steam locomotive class BR53 of the German Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft DRG in black and red livery. The steam locomotive DR 53 863 moved a train weighing 1000 t on flat stretches at a speed of 54 km/h. This was the top speed allowed for freight trains at the time. On hills of 10%, it moved 379 t at 25 km/h. The geographical features in Württemberg made powerful locomotives a necessity very early on. Powerful locomotives needed to be able to master the steep climbs in the Alb mountains. As early as 1849, the three-coupler of the "Alb class" was produced at the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen.
