braw0770.jpg BRAWA 0770 DB ET65 two-unit electric railcar set
(HO scale) Two-unit electric railcar set class ET65 of the German Deutsche Bundesbahn DB in era III livery and markings. The suburban traffic on the main-line Esslingen-Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg was started with electrical rail cars in 1933. The basic unit, comprising both a rail car and a control car, could be extended with a central car. In 1933, when the main-line Stuttgart-Munich was electrified, the suburban traffic service on the main-line Esslingen - Stuttgart - Ludwigsburg was also started with electrical rail cars. For this purpose, the Deutsche Reichsbahn purchased the rail cars elT 1201 to 1225, the later series ET 65, from the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen. The first series comprised 17 rail cars and 16 control cars. A regular suburban service was set up using these rail cars similar to the city rail service today. The basic unit was a rail car and a control car. The unit could be extended by using a centre car. The centre cars which were used were retrofitted double cars of the construction type 1929. Up to three complete units could be coupled together to make a train which was then controlled from one driver's cab. There were two further series of rail and control cars with small changes. Apart from the few cars which were lost in the war, all of the cars came to DB where they were painted red and used in Stuttgart's suburban service. After extensive modernisation program in 1961/62, during which the old face sides were exchanged for unit driver's cabs, the rail cars remained in service until 1978. Epoch III, bi-directional lights, factory installed interior lighting, Digital ready NEM652 interface, full interiors, metal frame, length: 466mm.
